INTRODUCTION
We are pleased to present to the community The Creative Class: a Directory of
Artists of Color in Wisconsin. We intend that this directory, the first of its kind,
serve as a community resource, making it easier to locate artistic works and
services.
The African American World Cultural Center came into existence, as our name
suggests, to build in Milwaukee a center showcasing African-American culture.
We are still pursuing that goal. (Please see inside back cover.)
Meanwhile, we sought to fulfill our mission by producing this directory. To
enhance its usefulness, we expanded its scope beyond African Americans to
include others of color.
By bringing artists of color together, this directory hints at the richness of talent
within communities of color – outside the state’s dominant culture. The artists
range from the little known to the nationally known. Still, this directory is just a
start. Many artists are not listed, for lack of information on them. This
directory exists at our web site (wwwafricanamericanwcc.com), where artists
may sign up for inclusion, which is free.
This directory is our gift to the community in the hope that it adds to the
vibrancy of the artistic marketplace.
Sincerely,
